"I have taken into consideration a lot of the ideas we talked about this summer as far as deeper and more in-depth questions. I find myself asking better questions and expecting more from student responses as proof that they are truly understanding the material. The Institute has challenged me to think of how I present material and has caused me to try to present in different and additional ways for better student understanding—and hopefully achievement."

Math Teacher, South Dakota

Bobette Ray

Middle School English Coordinator

Bobette first became aware of LTF while teaching at a school in Arkansas that was participating in a NMSI grant. She recalls that “the materials and teaching strategies I learned through LTF training completely changed the way I taught language arts. The best part of LTF for me was that I saw success with all my students.” Bobette notes that the skills-based strategies worked not only with Pre-AP and AP level students, but also with those in the general education curriculum.

Asked what she enjoys most about LTF, Bobette says “I love meeting people who are passionate about teaching. Because LTF Training provides a progressive and innovative approach to classroom instruction, it attracts the best and brightest minds in the field of education. I would definitely say that the most enjoyable part of my job is getting to learn and glean from all the wonderful teachers I meet through LTF trainings.”

Bobette has adopted the LTF philosophy as her own, but the parts that she is most passionate about are the rigor and relevance. “We must set high educational standards for all students,” she says. “I also think having a cadre of teachers who form a vertical team is the key to a successful AP program.“

With a BA and MSE in English and Gifted and Talented Education, respectively, Bobette has seven years of experience in 7th and 8th grade language arts, four years as a Gifted and Talented teacher/coordinator, and two years in AP Language. She coached or sponsored many extracurricular activities, her favorites being the Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl and Arkansas Bar Association Mock Trail.
