"Using Laying the Foundation trainings and materials with our faculty at Ruston High School has been a transformative experience. Now, as Lincoln Parish Schools is committed to train all of our secondary math, science, and English teachers in the district, I expect that the next three years will be revitalizing for our teachers and our students. I believe in what LTF can do for students and for schools."

Julie Stephenson, LTF Trainer and Louisiana Teacher of the Year

Brian Graves

Science Director

After recognizing the “unique opportunity to provide Pre-AP and AP resources and strategies to many students and teachers” at LTF, Brian Graves joined the organization (then under the AP Strategies umbrella) in 2005. He continues to enjoy this satisfying work, and finds the chance to collaborate with and learn from some of “the most successful and creative teachers around” especially meaningful. Brian echoes this esteem for the science team when asked about an accomplishment of which he is particularly proud: he says that he takes the most pride in the collection of materials and resources that he has “been but a part of producing and delivering.”

Brian most identifies with the LTF mission to offer all students the opportunity for academic excellence. “All students should be given the opportunity to be successful at the highest levels of learning,” he says. “With the right approach, teachers and students can, together, make it happen.” He hopes that LTF can bring this opportunity to “more and more places in more and more programs; valuable teacher training and preparation is the key to student success and LTF can be integral to helping that process, and not just for Pre-AP and AP programs.”

Brian holds a BS in Biology and Chemistry and has completed additional graduate work in Biochemistry. He spent ten years teaching in Wichita Falls ISD before joining LTF, and also has served as an AP Chemistry exam reader. Brian received the West Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence in 2002.
