Math Coordinator
Lori was first introduced to LTF materials while she was serving as a College Board consultant. She soon began working on a consultant basis for LTF, and, after using the activities in her own classroom, was impressed with the positive results she saw in her students. Now that Lori is a permanent LTF staff member, she loves the math team’s sense of collegiality and collaboration: “The knowledge of this group of teachers is incredible and each of us has our own strengths,” she says. “We work as a well-oiled piece of machinery in which each member of the team contributes her share of the load to produce the best teacher training, lessons, and assessments that are available anywhere in the nation.” She is motivated by the camaraderie of her coworkers every day, and describes them as “not only co-workers, but friends” who can “lift my spirits and keep me going” during times of stress.
When asked to describe her biggest accomplish since joining LTF, Lori mentions the lessons and assessments she has written. “When I first joined the company, I never saw myself as a person who could actually write a lesson. I have truly stepped outside my comfort zone but I have learned so much in the process.” However, she’s quick to add that “of course, anything we produce is ALWAYS a team effort.” Lori also truly enjoys the opportunity she has to work directly with teachers: “When the participants applaud at the end of training, I know that they enjoyed the lessons and I’m exhilarated by their enthusiasm.”
Lori believes that “raising the bar” can benefit all students, not only those identified as GT and Pre-AP. To Lori, the LTF mission resonates with this belief by actively involving both students and teachers in the learning process. “By using open ended questions,” she says, “students have the opportunity to discuss mathematics and use critical thinking skills. When I used LTF materials in my own classroom, I witnessed first hand the rewards of providing students a variety of activities and the opportunity to be exposed to real world applications of mathematics.”
During her 22 years in the classroom, Lori taught a variety of math levels ranging from sixth grade basic to Algebra I to AP Statistics. She also coached high school UIL Number Sense, Calculator Applications, and Mathematics and was the Crosby ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. Lori holds a BS in Business Administration, a teaching certificate in mathematics and economics and has continued graduate studies in education.
