Restroom conversations can be so interesting. I just shared one of my favorite projects with two teachers in the restroom at Paschal HS this past week. I think they are off and running with it! When our school quit buying tissue boxes for us to use in the classroom, I'd always go get a roll of toilet paper, remove the cardboard roll, and pull the tissue up from the center for my students. Well, that came to an end too. Seems toilet paper is now being padlocked in some schools! That got me thinking about how I could get my students to bring a box of tissues to school without looking like Kindergarteners. Sooooo....on the first day of class, I gave my students an optional "project". All they had to do was cover one box of tissues (any shape) with bright colored butcher paper. The opening had to be cut out so the tissues could be dispensed. Then students had to research a mathematics topic...something like the Pythagorean Theorem...or maybe a famous mathematician. Each face of the box(except the bottom) had to be covered with pictures, drawings, research, examples, etc. on that topic. I did one as an example so they could see how spectacular I wanted them to look. Well, they ran with it and appreciated the fact that it was artsy and fun. The boxes that I got were amazing! I made sure that one was put on the principal's desk, the counselor's desk, etc. We had mathematics all over the school! (Be sure to put them up during testing weeks.)

What a great idea, Mary! I've got it on my "first six weeks must do" list now
