2009 Teacher Training Reimbursements and Laying the Foundation®

How to Qualify for Teacher Training Reimbursements (TTR) From the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for Laying the Foundation® Training

Teachers must complete thirty hours (four days) of Laying the Foundation Pre-AP or AP training. Training may take place over four consecutive days or be delivered on four nonconsecutive days over the course of the year. Training may be provided in district, through regional education service centers, or via LTF sponsored institutes. The LTF Training Program requires teachers to attend four days of training per year for three years; however participating teachers may only seek reimbursement for tuition every other year.

AP teachers must have course-approval from the College Board for the 2009-2010 school year.

Pre-AP Teachers must teach an English, math, or science course in 2009-2010 that is specifically designed as a Pre-AP course. (In most districts, this means that not every teacher who participates in the training will be eligible for TTR.

TEA defines a Pre-AP course as one that:

  • goes beyond the TEKS in depth and complexity;
  • is appropriately rigorous to prepare students to be successful in AP courses; and
  • is part of a vertically aligned series of courses that ends with a specific AP course (i.e., a Pre-AP English course that leads directly to AP Language and Composition).

Teachers must have the approval of their campus principal and/or district AP coordinator. (Specific approval requirements are made at the local district level.)

Teachers must meet all other TEA eligibility requirements and follow all required procedures. These requirements and procedures can be accessed at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index4.aspx?id=3822.
