    This LTF lesson is an excellent introductory activity to the microscope. It includes identifying the parts of the microscope and proper usage along with determining the area and volume of objects viewed under the microscope. And although this is sort of a stretch to tie to this lesson, the following link has some incredible micrographs.

    Once students have done this lab they are much more likely to successfully comlplete labs such as Holey Moley where they count stomates. This is even now a part of the AP labs that are recommended.
